Bernard Herrmann

John Williams
Wait! He didn't do "Psycho"~unless it was for the remake. I thought they used Bernard Herrmann's score!
John Williams did NOT do the musical score for the original, and he didn't do the score for the remake. I found this:
From Wikipedia:
"Psycho: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture" is the soundtrack album to the 1998 remake of "Psycho". It includes three adaptations of Bernard Herrmann's score to the original by Danny Elfman, with the rest of the album made up of songs by rock, metal, country, trip hop, and drum and bass artists.
You could have listed:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
Superman~The Movie
the Harry Potter movies
A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
Saving Private Ryan
and many more
But, don't take credit from another brilliant composer: Bernard Herrmann:
Psycho (1960)(partially used for 1998)
Vertigo
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Jason %26amp; the Argonauts
Journey to the Center of the Earth
North by Northwest
Taxi Driver
Fahrenheit 451
Marnie
and many more
John Williams is a marvelous composer, but his style does resemble others who went before him. There is no mistaking a Bernard Herrmann score! NO ONE sounds like Herrmann although Danny Elfman obviously is mimicking him at certain times, even in the score for "PeeWee's Big Adventure".

John Williams.
Bernard Herrmann definitely did the score for Psycho - John Williams did the rest.

They're right.
John Williams
Bernard Herrman did the score for Psycho but the others were done by The Master ... John Williams.
One of the other answerers said that John Williams sounds like those who came before him ... who might they be? Williams is a Master at blending music to the movie. He is just as, maybe even more, responsible for Star Wars being the monster hit it was than George Lucas ... one without the other doesn't work.
** Side bar: wikipedia is not the site it was when it first went online ... it has become "tainted" by idiots who like to give false and misleading information ... in this case however they are dead on.
John Williams, of course!
